Dec 14, 2011 - Techniques Night

Please note:

  • On line Registration is no longer available, any open spots will be available at the door on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Techniques Night is for TBS members only. If you wish to become a member, you will be able to do so at the door.
  • All classes are $10. If additional kit fees are applicable, they are payable to the instructor at the class.
  • You are welcome to bring a holiday treat to share with the group.

St. Petersburg Chain

Use two sizes of seed beads to make this elegant looking bracelet. St. Petersburg chain can be called a modified square stitch. This bracelet shows a two chains with a shared bead. You will learn the single strand and how to join the second strand. A number of variations will be discussed and samples available. Kit includes enough beads to make an 8" bracelet and findings.

Intermediate level, students should be comfortable with needle weaving techniques.

Lucky Star Earrings

Using simple strips of paper you will learn how the make Lucky Stars. Once you have mastered star making you will use fancy paper to make a trio of stars for each of your earrings.

Please bring round and flat nose pliers as well as wire cutters.

Kumihimo beaded bracelet

Learn how to use a kumihimo disk to create simple but stunning bracelets you can wear alone or stack, using inexpensive craft wire and beads. Once you learn the braiding steps and where to place the beads, this project can be completed in less than an hour.

Teacher will provide enough silver wire and findings to complete one bracelet and will have a selection of crystals and pearls for you to choose from so you can personalize your bracelet.

Tools: You will have to purchase a square kumihimo disk (a round one will NOT work for this technique). Check with Flirt Designs if you don’t already own one. Teacher will bring flush cutters and roundnose pliers, etc to share but if you have basic wireworking tools you should bring them along.

French Beaded Flowers

Using wire and beads, these types of flowers date back to at least the 17th century where they were most often used as decoration on betrothal baskets. The potential uses for these items are extensive, ranging from decorations for the home or small objects, hair adornments, jewelry, etc.

This class is suitable for all levels and is a freeform (i.e., not counted) technique. The kits will include enough materials to make one or more basic flowers.

If possible, please bring a beading mat/piece of fabric with a nap, and needle-nosed pliers; some tools will be available for use during the class. The beads being used are size 10 or 11, so please feel free to bring extra lighting and magnification tools if needed.

Celtic Star Earrings

Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly earrings

Learn to bead a basic spiral rope and then to embellish both the core of the spiral and the loops, in the process, creating these festive earrings.

I'll be providing a printed pattern, the beads, earhooks, beading needle and thread, however, students with allergies or special preferences regarding ear hooks or beading thread are encouraged to bring their own. In addition, students should bring their own beading mats, thread conditioner, extra lighting and magnifiers.

Coiling Gizmo Beads

Coiled bead with and without a core, Beaded coiled bead and Double coiled beaded bead are what you'll be learning in this class.

There is no kit fee, just go into your stash.
You'll need: 6/o seedbeads (approx. 15g), 22ga Artistic or Parawire, a Coiling Gizmo, Wire Cutters, Chain-nose and Flat-nose pliers and a beading mat.

Blooming Rosette Earrings

Learn how to create a raised floral design using wire and a mix of beads that will blossom into a fantastic pair of earrings. A glistening crystal center, surrounded by smooth metal rounds and the subtle sparkle of fire polish beads, all layered together. Work this style into your other designs or cluster them together into more complicated pieces. Sophisticated and fun, these earrings have contemporary flare with vintage soul.

Lacy Beaded Cab Bezel

There are lots of ways to make a beaded cab bezel, this one is quick and lacey so it doesn't overwhelm the cab. Easy off-loom beading techniques are used throughout.

There are only 5 rows: A foundation row of circle chain, a row of elongated tricots on either side of the base and rows of clear beads to shape the bezel. Instructions (and beads) for an optional embellishment row are also incuded.

All necessities (glass cabs, beads, needles, etc.) are provided. Students encouraged to bring bead mats, magnification (if needed), scissors and any other notions they prefer.
