From September to June, the Toronto Bead Society usually meets on the second Wednesday of every month at Ryerson University, 380 Victoria Street (East of Yonge, Between College and Dundas). Please check our Meeting Schedule for actual dates.
If you like to learn, look and talk about beads, we invite you to join our society.
Sep 9, 2015 - Bead Sculpture with Marina Dempster
Marina Dempster's primary technique is a contemporary translation of the pre-Columbian Huichol art of ʻtransformational yarn paintingʼ; preparing a form with a new skin of beesʼ wax and pine-resin, which is then meticulously embedded with beads or yarns and/or other materials with the pressure of the fingertips and other improvised tools. Her personal practice evolves through experimenting with materials and methods of making, crossing boundaries between traditional craft and contemporary art.
